Office-bearers and members of the Indian Journalist Association, Burhanpur, submitted a memorandum to Deputy Collector Srijan Srivastava at the district's Joint District Collector's office. They also submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The officials demanded the construction of a Journalist Colony for journalists and the immediate implementation of the Journalist Protection Law in the state. During the meeting, Indian Journalist Association District President Shakeel Khan, District Vice President Sumesh Tayde, Secretary Rahul Ingle, and senior journalist members Gokul Khandare, Manoj Bhagwatkar, Sohail Ahmed, and Sheikh Wasim unanimously expressed their demands.
Journalists stated that media workers convey the voices of every segment of society to the government, but their own safety and housing issues have been neglected for years. Journalists often face threats and attacks during field reporting. Therefore, the implementation of a Journalist Protection Law is crucial.
The association has also requested the Chief Minister to develop a colony for journalists at a suitable location in Burhanpur, so that even economically weak journalists can get respectable housing.
During this meeting, several officials of the organization including District President Shakeel Khan were present. They said that if immediate action is not taken on the demands, the organization will be forced to resort to agitation.
Deputy Collector Srijan Srivastava has assured to forward the memorandum of important demands of the journalists to the government.
